PROVENCE MEMORIES 1951 - 1961
13 b/w photographs by TONI HARTING at the Pikto Gallery in the Distillery District of downtown Toronto
October 7 - November 11, 2008 ----- Opening reception Friday, October 10, 6-9 pm
In the 1950s and early 1960s, while working in the south of France as a wandering minstrel, I made thousands of black-and-white photographs of numerous colorful characters from many walks of life. I used these pictures to create a wide-ranging collection of candid, revealing portraits that are an original, joyous, thought-provoking, but above all honest historical documentary record of the lively spirit of those times. I am delighted to show a special selection of these photographs at the Pikto Gallery.
